Last week, the Supreme Court’s official YouTube channel was hacked, in a potential security breach. The channel shows videos promoting XRP, a cryptocurrency developed by US-based company Ripple Labs. Meanwhile, The OpenAI Newsroom account on X was also hacked on Monday’s, promotion crypto scam.
OpenAI Newsroom account on X was hacked to promote crypto scam
On September 23, 2024, the OpenAI Newsroom account on X was hacked and shared a tweet. The tweet claimed that OpenAI announced the OpenAI branded blockchain token, the $OPENAI.
The tweet sharing the information, “We’re very happy to announce $OPEANAI [sic]: the gap between Al and blockchain technology,” and “All OpenAI users are eligible to claim a piece of $OPENAI’s initial supply. Holding $OPENAI will grant access to all of our future beta programs.”

In addition to this, the tweet also shared a link to a fake version of OpenAI’s website, which hosted a URL different from openai.com (token-openai.com).
At the time of writing the article, the above post advertising the $OPENAI token was removed. Plus, The OpenAI Newsroom x account was created in June 2024 and the account has 54K followers.
Currently, OpenAI does not update anything about what happened, or who hacked the account. Plus, X has also no word regarding this matter.
The hacking news of the OpenAI newsroom X account being compromised comes just a couple of days after the company introduced the new OpenAI o1 mini model. The OpenAI o1 mini model is help to solve the complex problem such as Mathematics, Coading, and advance problem.
OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s x account posted a similar message promoting the fictitious $OPENAI crypto token in June 2023. Just three months ago, OpenAI chief scientist Jacob Pachocki and OpenAI researcher Jason Wei x account also were hacked and used to publish scam posts similar to the ones posted on the OpenAI newsroom account on Monday.
